Alopecia areata is a condition that causes hair loss in round patches on the scalp and body. Alopecia is the medical term for baldness. With alopecia areata, missing hair often grows back approximately 6 months to 1 year later. Less than 5% of people lose all the hair on their head and body. Complete baldness of the scalp is called alopecia totalis. This type of hair loss is not contagious.. What causes alopecia areata? It is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks and destroys hair follicles. Hair loss due to alopecia areata tends to come on suddenly. The condition may be treated with steroids, anti-inflammatory drugs, or immunosuppressive medications. People with alopecia areata suffer from more allergies, asthma, and autoimmune conditions compared to those who do not have the condition.
There are many treatments available for seborrheic dermatitis. The most simple form of treatment involves the use of medicated anti-dandruff shampoo. Some dermatologists may also prescribe antibiotics to control the skin flora which can reduce the inflammation. The inflammation may be treated by a corticosteroid cream or lotion to control the immune response. Seborrheic dermatitis can be very persistent once it occurs so it is important the treatment is used even when the symptoms have passed, in order to prevent it.
Adult Care Advisor Adult Health Advisor Medications Advisor Pediatric Health Advisor Androgenetic alopecia, commonly called male or female pattern baldness, was only partially understood until the last few decades. For many years, scientists thought that androgenetic alopecia was caused by the predominance of the male sex hormone, testosterone, which women also have in trace amounts under normal conditions. While testosterone is at the core of the balding process, DHT is thought to be the main culprit.
According to dermatologist Marc Glashofer, experiencing a highly stressful event such as a physical injury or severe anxiety can cause shock to the hair cycle, pushing more hair into the shedding phase. Also, fewer hair follicles are available to grow new hair during the growing phase. This can trigger telogen effluvium, a type of hair loss that sees as many as 70% of the scalp hairs being shed, usually in handfuls. It becomes noticeable about two to six months after the shock occurs.

I had already been taking zinc and biotin, so we’re on the exact same path. However, I’ve added pumpkin seed oil based on Axe’s article. So far, things are going well (it’s been two months), my barber says he sees an improvement and is atonished at the overall rate of growth of my hair (I have to go weekly for haircuts). I have seen in the studies that it takes about 6 months before Rosemary oil starts showing dramatic effects.
Under normal conditions, scalp hairs live for about three years (the anagen, or growing, phase); they then enter the telogen, or resting, phase. During the three-month telogen period, the hair root shrivels up into a small "club," then the hair falls out. It is therefore normal to lose about 100 hairs every day, more of them on days when shampooing loosens the hairs that are ready to fall out. The hairs are then replaced by the body.
Archives DHEA: I took this at three different times over a few years as part of a workout supplementation program. I found that it increased my energy, sexual desire and libido, ability to lift heavy weight in the gym, and my overall feeling of strength and well being. It also significantly increased the volume and fluidity of my ejaculate and reduced sexual recovery time, letting me "stud out." It reduced joint pain due to lifting weights and trimmed me down somewhat by reducing belly fat. But it very definitely increased the rate of my male-pattern baldness and hair thinning, so I stopped taking it. It also made me irritable, impatient, intolerant, and aggressive as you would imagine with increased testosterone.
